Australian wins British Fantasy Award

Congratulations to writer Dr Angela Slatter, the first Australian to win a British Fantasy Award for 2012. The announcement was made on September 30. Dr Angela Slatter’s story ‘The Coffin-Maker’s Daughter’ won the short fiction category and was chosen out of 72 entries.

Dr Slatter is a Brisbane writer and University of Queensland graduate, whose winning story ‘The Coffin-Maker’s Daughter’ was first published in the collection A Book of Horrors, edited by Stephen Jones. Of the story, Dr Slatter said it is:

 “…kind of like an original fairytale and draws on the old tropes of your home not being a safe place, and the old tradition of ghost stories.”
