Delta of Venus

Delta of VenusOkay -I will admit it – I have read 50 Shades of Grey, which made me feel a little dirty, but not in a good way. Sort of in a shame ridden “I can’t believe I read all of this rubbish” way.

However to continue with the theme I thought some erotic litereature that has some merit would be a good idea.

Having picked Delta of Venus by Anais Nin, I am so glad I did!

This book, consisting of stories written in the 1940s, is written in such a way that even though some of the topics are taboo and uncomfortable, is a finely crafted work of literature rather than just erotica.

The stories wind around each other, kind of like the naked bodies within the tales, rubbing up against strangers and prostitutes, people with fetishes, and familiar friends.

I realise this sort of reading may not be to everyone’s taste but because it is anathema to 50 Shades it makes reading it very worthwhile.
