Do you hear the people sing?
I’m a bit excited. A new film adaptation of the musical, based on the book by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables, is soon to hit the big screen.
It’s got some big names: Hugh Jackman in the lead role of Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as his hunter Javert, Amanda Seyfried is Cosette, Anne Hathaway plays Fantine, Madame Thénardier is played by Helena Bonham Carter (my favourite role and one of my favourite actors) and Sacha Bonham Carter, the master of the house, Thénardier.
If you’re not familiar with story, here’s my summary: Jean Valjean is an escaped convict made good, but always looking over his shoulder for guard Javert, the man who wants him back in irons. On his path to redemption, Jean Valjean adopts Cosette, saving her from her not-so-nice foster parents. Skip forward a few years, add a background of revolution and you have one of the most heart-wrenching romance stories.
While I haven’t read the book, I have seen Les Mis on stage a number of times, which is why this trailer is what has me excited.
I usually stay clear of the boxing day movie releases … maybe not this year.
What do you think?
