Love with a Chance of Drowning

Love with a Chance of DrowningI was really drawn into this amazing story of two people sailing across the Pacific from California to Australia on a small yacht called ‘Amazing Grace’.

Love with a Chance of Drowning is the memoir of Torre DeRoche captured her transformation from a person terrified of water and boats to a competent yachtsman.  Her partner Ivan is an extremely talented navigator, a critical skill for anyone planning such an adventure.  Torre’s love of Ivan overpowers her aqua phobia and she agrees to participate in his dream.  Their experiences along the way, meeting other travelling nomads, getting into and out of scrapes, and meeting warm and friendly inhabitants of the wonderful locations they found, were thoroughly engaging.  After facing her fears Torre’s practical skills and flair for innovation kept them safe in the face of danger.  I was disappointed when the adventure finished.
