Screw it, let’s do it!
I was in Brisbane to finalise a supply tender in early May and my flight back to Melbourne with Virgin Australia was unfortunately delayed for an hour, which actually turned out to be a good thing. As I was waiting I saw Sir Richard Branson walking briskly past me with his airline associates. It took me a second to realize that it was him and I quickly kept my computer aside (as I was checking my emails) and ran to him and said, “excuse me, Sir you are my hero and I admire you and have learnt a lot from you. It is great to see you in person. Can I please have the opportunity to take a picture with you?” And he simply replied “Of course” and asked one of his colleagues to click a picture of us together…
When I was growing up, I was fascinated by Sir Richard Branson’s lifestyle as now and then I would hear about his adventures of attempting the fastest Atlantic Ocean crossing, hot air ballooning over the Atlantic and the Pacific but during my college and later university days where I was studying business, I was inspired by his eccentricity and spirit of entrepreneurship.
Personally it was a great experience as I was meeting one of my heroes and professionally it strangely boosted my confidence standing next to an epitome in the business word.
I like his book, Screw it, Let’s Do it which happens to be my favourite quote of Sir Richard as well and would recommend it to everyone as it talks about the power of a positive attitude towards life with examples from his personal life and business decisions. I love this one as I do not hold back when presented with an opportunity.
