The Amber Amulet
Meet twelve-year-old Liam McKenzie, who patrols his suburban neighbourhood as the Masked Avenger – a super hero with powers so potent not even he can fully comprehend their extent … he protects the people of Franklin Street from chaos, evil, and low tire pressure – but can he save them from sadness?
Deceptively small, but mighty at heart, The Amber Amulet by Craig Silvey is a gem of a book. Liam is like a comic book hero, armed with ‘superpowers’ and running around his neighbourhood to ‘protect’ the people from evil (like forgetting about their bins!). Liam’s heart of gold tries to save an unhappy woman, and his plan is well intentioned but misguided, with unexpected and comedic results. Silvey’s novel is poignant and witty as Liam tries to comprehend the woman in the end house, and the invincibility of youth faces the melancholy of adult life.
With humour and emotion, The Amber Amulet is a delight for all ages, about understanding truth and justice, and the incredible strength you can find in yourself.
The Amber Amulet by Craig Silvey will be available in October.
