The Amber Amulet Premiers at Berlinale

The Amber Amulet by Craig Silvey has been adapted into a film by Matthew Moore and will premier at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival, 7-17 February 2013.

Silvey’s Amber Amulet is directed by Matthew Moore, who also wrote the script with Genevieve Hegney. The film has been selected to compete for a for Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film, as well as the International Jury award for the Best Short Film, which carries a prize of €2500. Moore won a Crystal Bear in the 62nd Berlin Film Festival for his first short film, Julian

“I’m incredibly excited to be competing in the International Berlin Film Festival for a second time. The Berlinale is my favourite film festival as it’s where my journey as a film-maker began. I’m thrilled ‘The Amber Amulet‘ will have its world premiere there,” Matthew said.

The Amber Amulet centres on the Masked Avenger, Liam, a 10 year old super hero who protects his neighbourhood with the help of his crystals and pet beagle. It’s a very uplifting story about the power in each of us. The Amber Amulet is Craig Silvey’s second novel, following the award winning Jasper Jones.
