The Tiger’s Wife
I really wanted to love this book, The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht. And I nearly did, it is elegantly written and exquisitely concieved. It is the tale of a doctor in the Balkans just before and during World War II, a tiger and a deathless man intertwined with the story of his Granddaughter’s life (also a doctor) in the contemporary divided and war torn Balkans. In the end I like the narrative and really enjoy the writing, but somehow feel let down. Go figure.
